What Its Like to Be in a Music Video

Ok I feel like I can talk about it now haha. First of all I want to say that I am not putting this up here to brag and I'm not putting it up because I feel like I'm supercool now. I am NOT saying I was an important part of the video and that I will be in tons of shots. I'm putting it here because this blog is really like a journal of my life and if other people wanna read it that is awesome. There is no way I can have a journal without talking about one of the best days ever! And if you aren't a Breathe Carolina fan, just imagine it being your favorite band and you'll understand how I felt.
One thing, when I say "director," I'm not really sure what I mean because it seemed like there were two directors. One guy seemed to be in charge of the cameras and only partly in charge of directing the band and us, and one guy seemed more in charge of directing us and working with the other guy. So I don't know if there were two, or one had another role like producer or if he was like a vice-director or whatever you call them, so I'm just putting that out there.

So I left for LA around 8:45am. I have driven for about 6 or 7 hours before but not alone in the car so it was a tiny bit scary at first but I got over it quickly and just listened to my ipod the whole time and was there before I knew it. I had a hard time finding the place but I eventually just got out of the car and found a guy out front who told me to go downstairs. This was pretty much right at 11am. I went downstairs into this really dark bar/club place. I could hear a director and the song Blackout playing over and over but it was on the other side of the club so I couldn't see. I signed a waiver and waited with about 30 other people, guys and girls all around 18-20somethings. The director came over and told us they were gonna be about another 30-40 minutes. An hour later he said another 20. Kyle came over and talked to some people and then David came over. He said hi and shook my hand and I don't know if he realized it or not but he didn't let go for an awkward amount of time haha. So then he asked how we were and complained about how freaking hot it was in there.

They brought in tons of pizza for the guys, their band and the crew and then brought us some but I can't eat pizza because of the cheese! It was the kind where you can't really pick it off either so I just had a water bottle woohoo. I didn't eat all day until I got home but I was too excited to notice anyway. FINALLY after almost THREE HOURS they ushered everyone over to this little stage. They guys were supposed to pretend to perform the song and the director told us to just go insane with energy, jumping around, dancing, hands in the air, singing along etc. So we did one take of the full song, rested for a couple minutes while they changed the lighting and moved the cameras and then did it again. And again. And again. I think we did it about 5 or 6 times and we were all panting, pouring sweat, hot as hell but doing just like the director told us. Kyle asked if we were all ok if we needed anything and we said water so he personally jumped off the stage, found some water bottles and passed them out. He handed me mine first and I wanted to keep it but then I passed it around cuz there weren't enough for everyone.

When we were finished with that, they told us all to go wait for another scene. So we did and I noticed that the director was picking out a few pretty girls to do the next scene. And when I say pretty girls, I don't mean that the other girls weren't pretty, I mean girls who were in shape, and wearing nice dresses and looked around 21 and had a sort of girl-in-music-video look to them. There were quite a few pretty girls that didn't get picked. They had the guys sitting on the big couch thing and the girls all around them with drinks in their hands and stuff. The first take, everyone was really stiff and awkward and they rearranged a few things and then I heard the director say, "do we need a couple more girls?" As soon as he turned around I said, "me, I'll do it!" and raised my hand and jumped forward. He waved me over and I waited next to him while they arranged more stuff. He was talking about moving this one girl to the end because she looked so young and he said something about needing someone who looked a little older and I said, "I'm 28," and he was like, "really? Ok get in there," and sat me down. Then he moved me to a bench at an angle to the guys and told me to sit there and had another girl on another bench at the other side.. I was so nervous because I went from standing in the background in the dark to being in front of a lot of bright lights and cameras and people watching and knowing I was going to be filmed in a few minutes. Then they got the guy who plays the keytar in the band, his name is Josh, to sit next to me and told him that he was supposed to be my boyfriend in the scene.  So we started filming and they told us to have fun and get crazy, pretending to drink and dance around. They told the girl sitting next to David to kiss him! And then they told him to look more receptive and not pull away, and he kind of mumbled something about how his girlfriend wasn't gonna like this but they did anyway. They told Josh to put his arm around me and we were just kind of dancing around in our seats and singing and stuff. Then we filmed a few more times and girls were pouring a bottle of whiskey down Kyle's throat and it got all over him and them and Josh had me grab the bottle and give it to him and pour him shots. The director told us to get more crazy so the guys drank more and danced around and he had the girls touching them and Josh stuck his hands in my hair and started messing it up all weird and then poured the bottle down his throat upside down and there was alcohol everywhere and it really was crazy. I realized that my eyes were closed a lot of the time because the lights and the strobe were so bright so I made an effort to find the camera and give it a sexy look which probably ended up looking really stupid like most of my sexy looks. I was closer to Kyle so he sang a little in my direction which was cute. Over all this was my favorite scene because it was so fun and in between takes we got to talk to the guys. Josh told them I was 28 which he knew from us talking and Kyle, David and every girl sitting there all had the same wide-eyed disbelieving stare, it was actually really funny. I said, "yeah nobody believes me," and Kyle high fived me cuz I was older than him but only by 2 years. Yay for being old I guess.
I could FEEEEELLL the girls who didn't get picked just killing me with their eyeballs. Ah! I felt bad for them (the guys too) because they were all just standing around watching us have fun. Then the director had us girls (and Josh who now reeked like whiskey and was singing a song that consisted of my name and a nonsense word that rhymes with Jessica) all stand up and get in a circle. And since our circle wasn't very circly he made us hold hands. We pretended to play red rover and then Kyle came up behind us smmmmashed and was telling us stories and the director was like, "Kyle, I don't know if you realize this but YOU ARE IN THE BAND. Get over here in front." Then everyone else got in on this and made a big smoosh pit around them and basically smashed the hell out of each other while the song played and we jumped around and crashed into each other and sweated all over each other and it was gross. My foot got jumped on more than once and all I was wearing on my feet were the ballet flats I had stuffed in my boots in case I needed to change into them and I did cuz I couldn't jump in the high heeled boots I wore to begin with so yeah it hurt and it's all bruised and a little swollen now seeeee??
Battle wound.

Anyway, the next scene was the guys and the band all in front of the bar. The rest of us were supposed to be behind them talking to each other like we were really hanging out at a bar and that was the most awkward part, pretending to talk to each other. The drummer turned around and talked to me for a little bit. They had some funny scenes like the DJ passed out on the bar, the bartender pouring David a shot and him trying to grab the bottle away and they were fighting over it. Josh jumped on the bar and started dancing and then fell back into the crowd! Luckily we caught him and everyone was screaming and trying to hold him up and then the director was like, "ok cut, put him down." Ha.

After this the director picked out two girls and told them to stay and the rest of us could leave. He told the guys to be back in 10 minutes and David spent it all outside talking to us and taking pictures. I left after that and booked it home where the first thing I did was jump in the shower and wash off all the sweat and alcohol off me.

So overall I had the best time, it was interesting to learn what goes on in filming a music video, I got to hang out with my favorite band all day and talk to them and plus I get to see the finished product when the video comes out and actually see myself in it. I was in a lot of scenes, but to be realistic, they need to fit an entire two days of filming into about 3 minutes (Josh was telling me about what they filmed the day before and David said it was going to be really effing weird). So I know I'll be in there a bit, just not sure how much and I'm actually super excited to see it but also scared because what if I am in there and making a weird face or something? I'm sure any bad shots will be edited out but you never know what you'll catch in the background.
So if you want to see it, it's not out yet but the song is Blackout, the band is Breathe Carolina and I'm wearing purple feather earrings, a black top, pink and black skirt and a big black flower ring on my finger. I'm kind of nervous!
PS: I was worried that Kenneth might be upset about some of the stuff in the video and he was just like "well did you make out with anybody?" and I said no and he said then it's ok and he's not upset at all. He was actually more jealous that he didn't get to go and hang out with them too and is interested to see the video.

So that's it for this really long post, Happy Fourth of July if you are American or happy regular day to everyone else!

Yesterday

I know I said I'd tell you all about the video shoot but I still haven't completely calmed down from it yet! I'm still so amped from yesterday that I don't think I can tell the story without freaking out. The basics are: Yes I met the band and basically hung out with them all day. They are the nicest guys ever and so much fun. I was at the shoot from 11am to 6pm. There were about 30 other people there (not including band members, crew and directors etc). I feel like I got hit by a bus today and I didn't even drink. I got out of the shoot covered in rum, whiskey, and sweat, probably only about 50% of which was mine. I know super gross, I showered immediately. Rest of the story coming hopefully tomorrow!

Me in a Music Video?

I have pics from the Salton Sea trip but haven't uploaded them yet so they will be up next post.

So this thing that I'm kind of excited about is, I'm going to be in a music video! Yep, I am heading up to LA tomorrow to be in Breathe Carolina's video for the song Blackout. I didn't actually really think I would get accepted, but I did and they gave me the information Wednesday morning. Now, I have NO idea what I am actually going to be doing. I just know that they told everyone to dress cool/hip/sexy and we'll be filming at a club. So I'm not sure if I'm just supposed to be bopping around in the background, if I'm supposed to be dancing as a clubgoer, or if they will be performing the song and I'm just supposed to fill out the crowd. I don't know if I'll get to meet the band or if they'll even be there which I'm assuming they will since it is their video. I don't know if there will be hundreds of other people in the video or just a few. I'm not even sure if I'll be able to see myself once the video is done, or if I'll just be part of the crowd. My assumption is that it will be a club scene and we are just supposed to dance around or that it will be a performance scene and we are the audience listening to the band, and there will be quite a few of us, enough to fill most of the club but not crowd the whole thing since they need to have the cameras and lighting equipment in there. I am also assuming that we will be filming for a good few hours, maybe even most of the day. This is just a guess.

So I had some prep work to do. First I got my hair cut and fixed the color. Basically I have been needing to do this forever and have been putting it off and used this as an excuse to finally get it done. I really don't think being in the background of a video warrants a complete hair makeover. But I got my bangs cut back in, trimmed up the top layers and got some split ends cut off. Also, I have some peek-a-boo blonde strips and they had grown out like four inches so I got those fixed up.
Next, I realized that I don't have any clubbing-type clothes! I completely re-did my wardrobe a few months ago and forgot to get anything for going out. So I went to the mall with the cool/hip/sexy requirements in mind. Also, I'm not allowed to wear anything with logos or stripes. So I saw this cute/sexy red dress and thought, well if I'm wearing red at least I'll be able to spot myself easily. Then I saw a black dress that I liked just as much. So I got both. But I decided to keep looking around a little and found a really awesome black corset-like top. It is shiny black material with little beaded designs and has those little eye-hook things all the way up the front. Which would go perfectly with this hot pink and black skirt I saw when I first got to the mall. When I saw it, I thought 'this is cute and if I can't find anything else I'll come back and get this skirt.' So I ended up going back and getting the skirt because the top went perfectly with it.
After I came home and showed everyone the clothes, I decided (with some help) on the skirt and black top. Then I put on some black boots with it and liked the look, but those shoes are so uncomfortable and I might have to be wearing them for awhile and possibly dancing in them. So I went back to the mall the next day and found some awesome knee-high black boots for like 20 bucks. They still have a heel, but a little bit lower one and the boots are comfy. I added pink feather earrings, a black flower cocktail ring, and a black smokey eye with hot pink around the edge and pink glitter liner and voila. So here are some pics and later I will put some up of my outfit and makeup on my beauty blog and I'll do my hair the way I want it tomorrow. Wish me luck!
New hurrrr.
Close-up of one of the streaks.
I tried to do a pic of my eye makeup but the lighting is weird in here, maybe I'll get it later.

So I feel really stupid about complaining in my last post, I'm sorry and just ignore it, I was just having a bad day or something. Anyway, I have a few things to talk about including my trip to the Salton Sea and something I get to do this weekend that I am excited about. I will hopefully have the post up tomorrow! Talk to you guys soon!

Balancing It Out

Random post time. I want to complain a little bit to get it off my mind but first I'll talk about a fun time to even it out. So yesterday was kinda fun. Me and Kenneth and Zach went to Boomers for a little while, I hadn't been there in so long. We got this package deal kinda thing where we got a round of mini golf and 20 game tokens. So we did the mini golf and the first time we kept score on the little card and everything and it was really fun! It was dark but the place stays open until late like 11 I think. So, I know this is wrong but we skipped the last hole and jumped over to the other golf course, it wasn't crowded or anything. On that one we just messed around, on one hole we all hit our balls at the same time and all three went in! It looked really cool. And we just tried to race through the course as fast as we could because we were going to pick up my sister from the airport at midnight and we wanted to eat something first. It made it funny and we laughed a lot.

Then we went into the arcade to spend our tokens and decided to make it a competition and see who could get the most tickets. Winner!! I beat them both haha suckerzzzz. It's so crazy because when you are little the toys you can get with the tickets seem like the coolest things in the world and you will try so hard to like save up your tickets and everything and then you realize that most of the stuff in there can be bought elsewhere with a quarter.

We left after that and decided to go to Sonic. I never go there because the closest one used to be about 45 minutes away but they built one in the next town over about a year or two ago. We were close though so we went and I got an Ocean Water which is what I always get when I get a chance to go to Sonic like on road trips or whatever. Then we went to the airport and picked Beth up. Her trip to Florida sounded so cool, I'm jealous, I wish I could go somewhere like that.

So here's my complaining, you can skip this part if you want and I'll keep it short. I spent all of last semester running myself into the ground. I would rush home from school, and do only homework until midnight and then go to sleep and get up and go to school and do it again. On weekends, I spent almost the whole weekend doing schoolwork. I would allow myself maybe one thing like hanging out with friends just for a few hours or go shopping with my mom or something. Even when my grandpa was in the hospital I would bring my schoolbooks and study there for hours trying to keep my mom and grandma company. I was just hoping that I would get to do something cool this summer. Anyway, I know I can't do all the stuff I wanted but I was hoping for some of it. It now doesn't look like I will be able to do anything except Warped Tour and we bought our tickets ages ago when the pre-sales first came out. There's just too many things we need to pay for instead. We did add one thing. We got tickets for the Scream It Like You Mean It Tour. At least that sounds fun. I feel like a spoiled baby complaining, but I was just really stressed and thought it would be so good for me to get away for even a few days. Oh well.

The Voice

Dammit! I wrote this whole post out and then it just randomly disappeared and went back a page. Lame.
Anyway, I was saying that I wanted to write a frivolous post about a tv show called The Voice. I don't watch much tv at all but I have been watching this show with my mom and it's really good, a lot better than American Idol which can get really boring at times. Anyway, the semi finals were last night and now they have two people left from each team.
From Team Christina I like Beverly just a little bit better than Frenchie. She has always been one of my favorites from the beginning. From Team Blake I like Dia a little better than Xenia. They both have the most amazing unique tone to their voices but Dia seems like she has a stronger direction than Xenia, who is just so young and the songs she's singing aren't doing anything for her. From Team CeeLo I like Vicki just a tiny bit better than the other guy, I can't remember how to spell his name. They are both so good, but Vicki just has a little more spark, she could win I think. From Team Adam I like both Casey and Javier but to be honest I think he made a mistake in letting Jeff go. He was really amazing, I wanted to see him sing again! I miss him. =(
Well the results are on tonight in a few minutes.
I also have been watching So You Think You Can Dance. This show has been my favorite forever, I've watched every season except the first two. This season is really really good, I don't even have a favorite yet really. Maybe I'll review it and pretend my opinion matters. We'll see. Anyway just wanted to write for a little bit, oh yeah! The Hunger Games is getting sooo crazy. It's so good but it's really intense. I've read the first book twice now because I was reading it with Kenneth and we finished and are now on the second one. I like being able to talk to him about it. There is one thing that has been bugging me the whole series and I hope it gets resolved the way I want it to because it is always there in the back of my mind. I need to finish that last book already.
Bye guys!

TAG Time!

I forgot what this tag is called, but I tag everyone ever and I got this from Lizzy (Don't Forget to Sparkle!) I'm following her and you should too!

   1. Is it cute when guys kiss you on your forehead?
I don't know why but yes I think it's the cutest thing ever.

   2. A big poofy dress or a short party dress?
Why would I wear a big poofy dress? If I had an occasion to I would I guess, but I don't know where I would wear one, besides my wedding and my dress was kind of poofy!

   3. Are diamonds a girl's best friend?
    A sad lonely girl maybe.

   4. Is your hair up or down today?
Up, I usually wear it up and out of the way when I'm hanging around home.

   5. Do you straighten your hair?
    Yes, often.

   6. Favorite mascara?
I did a whole blog post about it on my beauty channel, but I think right now I like Loreal Telescopic Explosion and Benefit Bad Gal Lash.

   7. Do you get your nails done?
No, I hate having fake nails (I can't take out my contact lenses!) and I would rather not spend the money to have them painted when I can easily do it myself!

   8. Small or large purses?
Medium. Large enough to hold stuff but not a pain to haul around.

   9. Jeans or sweats?
Jeans, I wear them almost every day, they go with everything and are comfortable but still look nice.

  10. Do you wear clothes/shoes/jewelry that's uncomfortable?
Sometimes I wear shoes that are uncomfortable like heels but only for special occasions. I'm really into being comfortable, but I don't want to look slobby.

  11. Do you text message a lot?
Yes. I'm not glued to my phone, but texting is sometimes easier than calling.

  12. Whats your favorite color?
    Pink.

  13. Heels or flats?
I love the look of heels but I have such a hard time walking in them. I don't know how women do it. If I do happen to wear heels, I cling to Kenneth's arm the whole time so I won't fall. I am getting better at it. It's really hard to find flats that are cute too.

  14. Would you ever leave the house without makeup on?
Yes, but I don't prefer to. I feel better if I at least have under eye concealer on.

  15. Walmart or Target?
    I haaaaate Walmart.

  16. Do you think lip gloss is the best!?
    Of course.

  17. Do you own any big sunglasses?
    Yep, my favorite kind!

  18. How long does it take you to get ready in the morning?
About an hour. That's if I shower, eat breakfast, dry and straighten my hair and do my makeup.

  19. Gold or silver?
    Silver.

  20. Do you like to wear dresses?
Sometimes but I get cold easily. Especially where I live, it can be perfect weather for a dress during the day but it usually gets chilly at night.

  21. In the last 48 hours have you hung out with a guy?
Haha yes. Last night I played basketball with Kenneth, Luke, Troy and Zach.

  22. Do you like to hold hands?
    I love it.

  23. What do you notice when you first meet a guy?
    Probably voice and hair.

  24. Do you like making eye contact?
    No, it makes me uncomfortable.

  25. Would you kill for chocolate?
    Mayyyybe.

  26. On a scale from 1-10 how fun is shopping?
Depends on what I'm shopping for! Clothes or makeup= 10 but I hate shopping for groceries!

  27. Do you yell a lot?
No, I'm usually pretty quiet, but sometimes I get loud.

  28. Do you wear sweatpants/pajamas to school/work?
Nope. I don't mind if someone wants to wear sweats but pajamas? Come on at least make an effort to put some clothes on.

  29. Have you ever dressed unlike yourself to impress a guy?
No, I don't really have clothes that are unlike myself in the first place, but I wouldn't do it anyway because it makes no sense.

  30. What makeup could you not live without?
Under eye concealer, eyeshadow primer and lip gloss/balm. I mean of course I could live but what kind of life would that be!? Haha.

  31. Do you fall in love easily?
    Yes, in a way.

  32. Do you have cramps?
    Yes.

  33. Do you think you have the bestest friend ever?
It might sound cheesy but Kenneth really is my best friend, we do everything together. <3
